What is a keratin lash lift? here’s everything you need to know

WHAT IS A KERATIN LASH LIFT

Keratin lash lifts are one of the most popular beauty trends that are here to stay. For great reasons too. They enhance the length of your natural lashes without lengthy maintenance. A keratin lash lift procedure gives you more curled, longer lashes that appear up to 10x longer. The treatment works by applying a silicone curling pad to your lashes, to lift your lashes up from the base to the tip. Similar to what a hand lash curler does, however, an in-salon treatment gives a more dramatic effect and results last 6 - 8 weeks.

The keratin formula is applied to your eyelashes to nourish and strengthen the lashes during your treatment, similar to an Olaplex treatment for your hair, the keratin in the lash lift has to strengthen properties that give you a longer-lasting beautiful result.

HOW IS A LASH LIFT DONE?

A keratin lash lift treatment can take around 45 to 60 minutes and you will be required to keep your eyes closed during the entire process. Your lash stylist will apply the keratin formula on your eyelashes and then lift, separate, and curl them upwards along the silicone pads. Your stylist will choose different types of silicon rods for lash lift treatment as per your desired styling. You can also make the choice based on how much you would want your eyelashes to be curled. Generally, the larger the silicon pad is, the softer the lash curl will be. Different sizes may be used depending on the length of your natural lashes.

Upon arrival, you receive a consultation about your lashes and what result you are wanting to achieve. Your lash stylist will check what level of curl will suit your eye shape and lashes, then select the appropriate silicon lash pad to achieve the result. Your lashes will be cleansed to remove any natural oils or make up residue, to help the lift take effect.

Your eyes will be closed from here on and secured with an under eye lash pad, your lashes will then be applied to the silicon rod in the desired curl. This is how we achieve the length in your lashes. There is no pain during the treatment you may feel a slight tickle or pressure when your lashes are being applied to the pad, but the treatment is very relaxing and most clients fall asleep.

Your stylist will then get to work and apply the Keratin solution and the lash setting cream to your lashes to set them into place, It’s important to note that not all lash lift procedures are keratin-based! Yumi Lashes keratin lash lift is very different from other lash lifts and lash perm treatments which involve using an alkaline solution to curl your eyelashes. That is why you should always be aware of the ingredients that are in the solution used when you opt to go in for a lash lift in a salon. In order to be a true keratin lash lift, the lifting solution should have keratin proteins in the ingredients.

The final touch to your Keratin lash treatment is a lash tint. We colour your lashes from root to tip so the full effect of your lash lift is visible. Most lashes are blonde or lighter at the tips, so a lash tint will showcase the true length of your lashes, and for some - mean that you wont have to wear your daily mascara.

Once your lash tint has been removed, your results are complete and you will instantly have longer, darker lashes. Your lashes can appear a little wet from the tint being removed, however as your lashes dry they will begin to look even fuller and fluffier.

Keratin Lash Lift Aftercare

  • Keep them dry: As lash lift involves applying specialised solutions to a delicate area, you should make sure to keep your eyelashes dry for at least 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. Avoiding moisture will help to ensure that the curl settles in properly. This means avoiding getting your lashes wet in the shower as well!

  • No pillow cuddling: Do not let anything touch your eyelashes for at least 48 hours. Avoid anything that could lead to accidental tears or risk your lashes in any way. Moreover, try to sleep on your back for a couple of days to prevent your eyelashes from getting scrunched.

  • Using mascara: While there is no need to use mascara after your lift, you may still want to wear mascara to give an added touch to your makeup. If you plan to do so, use only oil-free mascara, and that too, only after 48 hours of the procedure.

  • Be aware of allergies: If you wear eye makeup after lift lash treatment, make sure to use oil-free eye makeup remover as well. This will ensure that it does not cause any allergies or damage to your eyelids. When choosing an eye makeup remover, stay away from those having parabens.

  • Condition your eyelashes: Any treated hair needs to be conditioned regularly to maintain the results. You can use a mild nourishing essence to protect and moisturise your eyelashes after the lash lift procedure. However, it will be wiser to consult with the beauty technician before trying any conditioner on your newly curled lashes. We have lash conditioning serums in the salon that we recommend to keep your lashes strong and nourished.
