Everything You Need to Know about Brow Waxing and lashes During Pregnancy

If you have recently found out you are pregnant, or your planning on trying for a baby soon, it's an exciting time, and you may be wondering what you need to change with your brow or beauty appointments.

We’ve wrapped the list of do’s and don’ts for your pregnancy so you can make changes to any of your upcoming appointments, or postpone until after you’ve had your bub.

Are feather touch brows safe during pregnancy?

Our policy is no. The truth is, there is very little research on Microblading on pregnant woman, while the pigments and products we use are very safe, we still have the policy to wait until after your baby is born. This is to reduce the risk to zero. Alongside health concerns, your hormones and body will be changing a lot during your pregnancy, so you want to wait until these go back to normal as they can affect the position of your brows and hair growth. Schedule your appointment for once you’ve had your baby and it will give you a little self-care to look forward to, as well as not having to pencil in your brows whilst you're busy being a new mum.

What other beauty treatments are not safe during pregnancy?

The rules of thumb during pregnancy are to avoid:

  • Any harsh chemicals that touch your skin or that can be absorbed into your bloodstream.

  • Treatments that raise your body temperature

  • Avoid any injectables during pregnancy - including Botox and fillers.

  • Any treatments that are tanning, cool sculpting or too stimulating

What should I do if I have done Microblading or any of the above treatments when I didn’t know I was pregnant?

Racheal suggests calling your Dr or Obstetrician and letting them know what treatment you have done and seeking medical advice just to be on the safe side.

Can I get my lashes did whilst I’m pregnant?

You certainly can, in our salon, we use high-grade products that are completely safe during pregnancy. You can get:

  • A lash tint during pregnancy

  • A keratin lash lift during pregnancy

  • Lash extensions during pregnancy

The lash extensions take a little more time than the others, so If you are struggling to lay for long periods of time, we may prop you up on a pillow or feel free to bring a side pillow of your own so you are comfortable.

The brow maintenance treatments that are safe during pregnancy

Henna brows

Henna is a natural tint that stains the skin to create shading where you don’t have brow hairs or you’re lacking definition. The results last anywhere from two to four weeks, almost anyone can enjoy the results including pregnancy and breastfeeding woman.

Brow tint

Getting your brows tinted when you’re pregnant or breastfeeding is completely fine, however, always let your brow stylist know that you’re pregnant when you arrive at your appointment. Pregnancy hormones can change the growth of your hair and the condition of your skin, so we may adjust the processing times to accommodate these changes.

Brow dye

Brow dye is a hybrid tint between the henna and regular tint. The ingredients in the gel hold on to the brow hairs longer than the traditional tint, and also leaves a beautiful soft skin stain as the henna does. In some cases, the henna or tint doesn’t work well for some brow types, so the dye is a great alternative that uses different ingredients. The colours also give different tones that some clients prefer. Which are completely safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

How should I plan my treatments around my due date?

A lot of women come in to get their brows and lashes done close to their due date so they don’t have as much maintenance during the first few weeks after their baby is born. Lack of sleep is given, so there’s nothing like a perfect brow and full lashes to help you feel a little better. Woman are also opting to get their brows done for their newborn photo shoots, by getting your brows and lashes done prior, you don’t have to worry about baby sitters whilst you come to your appointment.

You want to allow for at least 1 week before your due date to have your brows and lashes done. You can come closer to your due date if you’re feeling up to it, however, we recommend asking your Midwife or obstetrician what they suggest based on your baby.
